Breach loading hammer gun
12 bore
Top lever opening – double bite lock
Top rib – Hy Perrins Maker Worcester
Serial number 4012
On first appearance this is a fairly standard top lever hammer gun – but on close inspection it has the name
'Hy Perrins' on the side of the action and on the rib. With one exception, Heather Wiltshire - formerly Lynn Hennessey’s - 20 bore hammer gun with Henry’s name and retirement address on it, all the other later guns we see have Perrins & Son engraved on them. Heathers gun , which we know must have been produced after Henry retired, is number 4006 and this gun is number 4012, so it looks like Henry was still building guns into his retirement. It looks like this might be the very last gun made by Perrins and it is a hammer gun. I am guessing that Henry was really a hammer gun man through and through and while he did make these new fangled hammerless jobbies for the modern generation his roots were firmly in the hammer gun age.
The gun has steel barrels and has been re proofed at some stage in its life. As to age it is probably after 1892 when Pollard took over the business and the proof marks indicate it was made pre 1904.
