Pete recently bought this gun at auction.

"An impressive 8 bore single barrelled wildfowling shotgun by Perrins & Son ( No 3221).It has a 39 1/4 " barrel and weighs in at an impressive 11lb 1.5 oz and has a 3 1/4” chamber.

The gun retains nearly full choke and would fire cartridge loads containing  up to 2 1/2 oz of shot..

Built between 1875 and 1887 but probably after 1878 as it bears the 59 Broad St address.

In common with most big bore guns of the period it has a Jones under lever fastener , a rebounding back action lock with a faceted hammer , a horn tipped forend utilising a Deeley & Edge catch which shows considerable refinement notwithstanding the minimal engraving which was common in working guns of this type.

It has recently passed nitro reproof and retains its original choke bore.

Its now ready to go back to work !”
