Snider-Perrins 10 Bore

John Clements

Number 2377 would have been made in Mealcheapen St in the late 1860's. It is a very rare find as the Snider action was basically used as a way of converting muzzle loading Enfield rifles to breech loading cartridge rifles. This gun is not a military conversion but has every appearance of a custom made 10 bore shotgun of fine quality.

It was on the verge of being deactivated, which would have been a terrible fate to have befallen this lovely and rare piece. Many thanks to Roger Glover who sorted out a couple of minor issues. If you look down the photos you will see the firing pin he removed - yes - it is a nail making up half of it!! The spring return on the breech block was missing so he set to and made another as the standard rifle replacement was not on this scale.

The sighting plane is also interesting as it is concave both sideways and vertically which produces a very pointable picture.
