Jason Guy

12 Bore Hammer Gun

Serial No. 3336

1875 - 1887

This is a fairly standard, middle of the range, top lever, side by side hammer gun.

To be fair the gun has had a pretty tough life and is in need of a good deal of T.L.C., which Jason intends to give it. Here it is in ‘as found’ condition. The gun is very loose and off the face, the top lever spring is either broken or very weak, the fore-end horn is missing as is the stock oval. The stock has a very poor, ill fitting, rubber butt plate. On the positive side, while the Damascus barrels, stamped ERP (Edward Robinson Perrins), are only blackpowder proofed they have very little pitting and very good wall thickness. The action is crisp and sound with no evidence that the hammers or their screws have been tampered with.

The first job is to get the barrels re jointed, so the gun is back to good working order. The rest of the work is cosmetic but Jason intends to get the stock plate replaced and the wood work tidied up with a new oval fitted. He intends to get the fore-end horn replaced and the barrels re-browned. When this work is complete the gun should be good for another 150 years. Photos of the completed work to follow.
