Description
A fine example of an English percussion Pocket Pistol by Perrins of Worcester. Lion's mask butt-cap. Circa 1834-1853. Excellent condition. To most people the name of Perrins is synonymous with Worcestershire Sauce, the brown stuff in a bottle that has been made over the centuries, however back in the 19th century Perrins of Worcester was the name also engraved on some of the very best pistols which where used for protection of both person and property. The quality and craftsmanship of the Perrins guns were outstanding for a provincial maker and would even rival some of the London firms. Indeed the craftsmanship of the Perrins name can be seen in many of those guns which have survived untill today. There is a link between the families of John Perrins, gunmaker and that of William Perrins, who started the Worcestershire Sauce business in 1838. This link may well exist dating back to the early 1600s when the French Huguenot family first settled in England. The frame is finely engraved with floral decoration. The barrel marked on top "PERRINS WORCESTER" with Birmingham proof marks underneath. Drop down concealed trigger. The turn-off octagonal barrel approx 2 inches long. Chequered walnut grips, a Lion's head butt cap. The escutcheon engraved with a phoenix. Overall length 6 inches.
